Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Thembi Nkadimeng has asked the Sakhisizwe Local Municipality in Cala, the Eastern Cape, to rectify the decision it took in 2021 to increase the number of its executive committee members from three to four.
Nkadimeng - in a letter to the municipality's speaker, Nomzamo Mkati, on 25 March - said the decision contravened Section 43 of the Municipal Structures Act.
The municipality had received several letters from the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs advising it to rectify the decision but failed to comply with the requests.
