If you are pregnant or have a young baby at home, you’ve probably heard about swaddling by now. But what is swaddling? Swaddling is an age old traditional way of nurturing little babies. It literally means to wrap baby in a cloth. According to those who know, babies should be swaddled for all sleeps and when they are unhappily awake for the first 9 – 12 weeks. Dr Welma Lubbe, who is a registered nurse and advanced midwife and lecturer, tells us more about this.
