If you’re expecting a baby for the first time, you probably want to give her the best welcome possible to her new family. Because you’ve never had a baby in the house, though, you’ll probably spend loads of cash
on baby products you’ll never use. In the UK, over R1.1 billion is spent every year on unused (and often bizarre) baby-related products, according to the Daily Mail
Well-meaning expectant moms and dads try to cover all their bases, even if they have no idea what the products are for. Some of the weird products
- Breastfeeding bras for dads.
- Baby toupees
- Fake hands to go in cots to make baby feel secure
- Countless baby books which go unread.
A study has suggested that the reason for the overspending is paranoia about making sure everything is perfect for baby
, as well as a competitive desire to make sure that she has all of the latest gadgets and treats. Moms interviewed for the study had an average of eight baby books during pregnancy, but 26% confessed that they couldn't remember a single piece of information they'd read.Did you buy baby products which went unused?
