Milton - Safe, tested and trusted

For over 60 years, parents and hospitals in South Africa and beyond have trusted the Milton Method to safely and conveniently sterilise baby feeding equipment.

Sterilising anything babies put into their mouths is crucial during their first year. While babies’ immune systems do develop and strengthen during their first 12 months, by age one, they only have 15 to 17% of the antibodies an adult does. This makes babies especially vulnerable to infections like gastroenteritis, which is caused by viruses and bacteria, as well as thrush, an opportunistic fungal infection that occurs under certain conditions in young babies.

While a completely sterile environment isn’t necessary, recommended or practical, it is important not to expose babies to the harmful bacteria that can cause infections as they will tend to have a more serious effect on babies than adults. That’s why parents should sterilise all feeding utensils from birth up until the baby's first birthday and bottles and teats for as long as baby is using them.

The Milton Method is ideal for sterilising baby feeding equipment without boiling. It’s easy as it uses cold tap water (which stays sterile for 24 hours), quick, as it takes 30 minutes, and reliable as it has been SABS-approved to kill all known germs including thrush. After removing from Milton solution, all bottles, teats, pacifiers and feeding equipment can be drained and used immediately – no need to rinse. The range consists of 500ml & 1L sterilising liquid, 4 L steri unit , 250 ml liquid hand wash pump & a refill and the sterilising tablets 32’s.
