A new mother to a beautiful four-month-old baby was ordered to stop breastfeeding in the pool at Manchester Aquatics Centre, calling it ‘unhygienic’ and ‘indecent exposure’.

According to Dailymail, Stephanie Wilby, 22, was “waist-deep in the water feeding her little Leo in a corner of the toddler pool when the leisure centre employees warned her it was indecent exposure and similar to a swimmer urinating.”

After Ms Wilby decided to go against the staffs orders to breastfeed her baby in the pool, staff at the Manchester Aquatics Centre threatened to call security if she did not stop immediately.

The mother of two decided to spend the day at the centre with her family as she was still currently on maternity leave.

Indecent exposure

Staff surrounded Ms Wilby and started shouting and claiming that if she did not want to obey orders they will kick her out, making her feel uncomfortable and intimidated.

Ms Wilby mentioned that 'If they did not like it they could have asked me quietly to stop. I would have still questioned their reasons but it would not have been as inappropriate. They made a real scene. They were saying me breastfeeding was indecent exposure. But I was covered more than most of the other swimmers.’

The family has now made a formal complaint against Manchester Aquatics Centre about the incident.

An executive member for culture and leisure at Manchester council, said: 'We have asked the Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust and Serco to investigate this incident thoroughly and to take action immediately if it is established that any members of staff behaved inappropriately towards Ms Wilby.’

A spokeswoman for Serco said: 'We are fully supportive of mothers breastfeeding their child whilst in our centres. Serco’s operating practices are to encourage breastfeeding in a safe and comfortable environment for the mother and child rather than it taking place in the swimming pool.

'We will fully investigate this matter and where appropriate we will amend our policies and put in place appropriate training for staff. We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused.’
