The amazing world of online compassion
Justin Griner, Sammy’s dad, has a disease which affects his kidneys- he suffered kidney failure in 2009. The disease also killed Justin’s mom, so he took to the internet to crowd-source the funds he requires for pre-treatments and a transplant.
He already spends 12 hours a week on dialysis, so there’s some urgency in finding a donor.
In the same way that people responded to the image of his son, people have jumped at the opportunity to help Justin. In just two weeks is funding page easily surpassed the target of $US75k to reach $US100k. It has been shared over 3000 times and attracted over 4800 donations.
Sammy’s mom, Laney, commented on the page that she’s eternally grateful, and that she “loves the internet so much”.
We wish the family well in their quest to find a donor and for Justin’s full recovery.
