Back to life on Christmas Eve
One year ago, this mom and her baby lay lifeless. But this year they share Christmas with their family.

One-year-old Coltyn Hermanstorfer plays happily with a toy, surrounded by his family: dad Mike, mom Tracy, and brothers Austin, 12 and Kanyen, 4.

It’s a peaceful scene compared to the drama of a year ago, when Tracy went into cardiac arrest while preparing to give birth to the little boy.

Doctors quickly did an emergency caesarean section, but it seemed Tracy was dead. The little boy lay lifeless too, and Mike Hermanstorfer was sure he had lost them both. He faced the prospect of raising Austin and Kanyen alone.

Then, against all odds, doctors revived Coltyn in his dad’s arms, and about 45 minutes later he was told that his wife’s pulse had returned.

‘I'll tell him everything ... that he's my miracle baby. That he had a tough time coming into this world, that he's my miracle baby and he's still here with us,’ Tracy Hermanstorfer told an interviewer.

Watch an interview with the Hermanstorfers about their experience.
