Jessica Simpson recently showed off her new 'post-baby' body on Katie Couric's new talk show but that's not all she shared. Jessica couldn't wait to show the world a photo of 4-month-old Maxwell Drew in a bikini. (Don't even get me started on this poor little girl's name...) New mom, Jessica squeals, "She's posing!" Okay, then. Like mother, like daughter?
At first I was shocked that this little girl was clad in a tiny mustard yellow bikini. Surely, that's not appropriate for a baby who can barely sit on her own? The more I thought about it, the more I wasn't sure about whether or not this was okay. If you've ever seen a nappy commercial then you'll notice that babies are flaunted in a lot less than a yellow 2-piece. Is that any better?
Parent24 editor, Scott Dunlop, had a valid point: "Nappies are for babies and therefore identify the child wearing one as a baby. But clothing like bikinis are for adults. It sends the wrong non-baby message."
What do you think?
I still wasn't sure so I took to Facebook and Twitter to see how other parents feel about babies in bikinis.
For bikinis
It is very cute! I do not see anything wrong with it. - Rolene
Yes - my daughter only ever swam butt naked or in a two piece suit as a baby. Her baby pool was in the shade and she had sun block on! I don't see the issue? - Kelly
So long as you know which bikini to buy. Mine has one that has a top that looks like a crop to so I really don't mind. - Tumi
Against bikinis
It's right up there with pierced ears on babies. Tres trashy. - @MicheChelle
Bikinis are not for babies! Neither is make up or high heels. - @TamsinShawn
Never ever! It's irresponsible because of our harsh sun & babies should look like babies not mini-adults! - Andrea
I'm still undecided on whether or not I like bikinis for babies, I do know that I wouldn't force my own child to wear one though. Now I want to know what you think. Comment and vote below!
