Boys wore dresses, then pink... and other baby fashion facts of the last 300 years

Given the next-level stylings of itsy fashion icons like Baby Makhosini and Cielo the princess, it's hard to imagine that once upon a time, baby clothing options weren't informed by trends at all. 

Yep back in the day – like the 18th century – clothing for babies weren't even in colour, never mind fashionable, with both boys and girls rocking long, somewhat impractical-looking things that resembled christening gowns. And more often than not, the lengthy gowns would be passed down from sibling to sibling. 

So how did we go from the impractical to pink is for girls, blue is for boys?
