Kate Middleton has made a virtual bedside visit to new parents during a video call to Kingston Hospital's Maternity Unit in London.

Parents Rebecca Attwood and John Gill were clearly surprised by the virtual drop-in.

"This is definitely a first," Kate joked.

The Duchess could not hold back her motherly instinct when Rebecca and John shared that their son Max had been born just hours prior. (Watch the virtual meeting in the video below)

"My goodness, you must be exhausted," she said to the new mom, adding that her newborn looked "so sweet."

The Duchess also spoke with midwives and other medical experts on the state of hospital births during the coronavirus crisis in the UK, as well as maternal mental health during pregnancy amidst a global pandemic.

The virtual meeting was held to raise awareness around the UK's Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, which kicked off 4 May and continues up to 10 May.
