A step by step guide to bathing your newborn baby
To prevent friction and chafing, especially in skin folds, apply JOHNSON’S® Baby powder. Sprinkle it into your hands and then apply, rather than applying straight onto the baby.
Put on fresh nappy. Make sure it's securely fastened.
Don't forget to dry her thoroughly in the folds of her skin.
Apply JOHNSON’S® Baby lotion or JOHNSON’S® Baby aqueous cream. This is a good opportunity to massage your baby.

Check the temperature of the water.
Rinse soap off with your free hand, keep the face and head dry. Let baby experience and enjoy the water.
Wash the eyes with damp pieces of JOHNSON’S® Baby cotton wool, a separate piece for each eye. Always clean from the inside to the outside of the eye. Use another piece of JOHNSON’S® Baby cotton wool to wipe the rest of the face.
Wash her body. Add a few drops of JOHNSON’S® Baby oil to the bathwater. Remove her nappy and clean her bottom. Wipe from front to back
Use one of many JOHNSON’S® Baby cleansing products to clean her body.
Clean your baby's cord area with a cotton bud soaked in surgical spirits.
Apply a thin layer of JOHNSON’S® Baby jelly to baby's bottom to form a protective barrier against irritating wetness and to prevent nappy rash.
Hold baby in a safety grip over the bath or basin, with your arm supporting her back and head. Use your free hand to gently wet her hair. Apply a little JOHNSON’S® Baby shampoo to your hand and gently rub it into her hair. Rinse baby's hair well and pat dry with a towel.
Settle and reassure your baby. Undress her, leaving her nappy on. Wrap the baby in a towel to prevent too much wriggling, and to keep her warm.
Dress baby and wrap warmly after bath. Your baby is now clean and ready for lots of cuddling. Protect your baby with a hat if going out in the sun, and cover ears on cold, windy days. Don't expose your newborn to direct sunlight.
Lift baby from the bath or basin and wrap her in a towel. This is a great time for a cuddle. Place her gently on a towel and pat her skin dry.
