Is crèche abuse on the rise?

According to IOL, the parents of a 3-year-old girl have laid a charge of sexual assault at the Cape Town crèche she was attending, after she refused to go to crèche and started displaying behavioural problems.

The girl told her mother what had happened to her, which was then confirmed by a doctor who examined her.

'We want to create awareness among parents in general,' said her father. 'If your child shows signs that something is wrong, pay attention; it means something is wrong.'

The crèche has countered the claim, saying that they have a good security system in place and the abuse could have happened anywhere.

The crèche is unregistered as they weren’t aware that they were suppose to re-register under the Children’s Act.

Do you think abuse is on the rise, or is it a good sign that parents are more informed and are reporting the matter more often?
