What about a water birth?
Many women prefer a water birth because labour is more comfortable and less painful. As a result, there is less need for pain relief.
It is vital, however, that the delivery must only be done by someone who has experience in water births as there is a risk that the baby might drown. You must be prepared beforehand that you may have to be moved out of the bath if complications occur.
If possible, have an enema beforehand. Defecation during labour is common and it may be embarrassing to the mother if faeces are floating in the water.
