Sleep deprivation can cause all kinds of mishaps like putting your phone into the fridge instead of the milk or trying to open the garage door with the TV remote. A recent study shows that "regardless of the total amount of sleep, a minimal unit of uninterrupted sleep is crucial for memory consolidation".
