A farewell note
Parent24 says farewell to our wonderful editor-in-chief, Sam Wilson.

It’s a milestone: like being left at school on that first day, or staying over at a friend’s house for the first time. Our beloved editor, Sam, is leaving us.

She has been so central to everything at Parent24, from her awesome columns over the years, to her infinite wisdom when it comes to dealing with website technicalities, business decisions and a variety of colleagues.

She’s also a fantastic mom: We’ve seen her in action with her remarkable sons. One of the things I love about the way she ‘moms’ them, is the freedom she gives them to choose their own paths, and the nurturing she provides to them when they need it. That’s partly how she is at Parent24, too.

Sam inspires us to generate our own ideas, and yet her signature is everywhere we look. A great mom builds character, integrity and enthusiasm into her children- not always deliberately, but by modelling those things. She’s leaving a legacy of awesomeness here, in the same way that she is actively creating one with her boys.

What fun we’ve had working with her, and we’ll be joining Food24 and Women24 in missing her wicked sense of humour and razor-sharp insights.
We’ll be heading off to reread your columns often, especially the ones about swearing, kid-smuggling, cooking like Gollum and friends with benefits. (Not THOSE benefits).

All the best, Sam, and thanks for showing us that life is meant to be unconventional, and that there’s a story (and a laugh) to be found in everything, especially parenting!

In her own words:
I am pretty fond of my current job, but I am not married to it... as I am the focus of my life, not what I do. And while I may not have discovered a colour yet, I have made a few brave but tentative forays into uncharted territories and who knows; maybe a new colour will spill out of my pen one day.

But in the meantime, I am making damn sure that every time Joey or Ben regale me with what they are going to be when they grow up – ‘A fireman! No, a professional footballer! A cartoonist! A builder!’ – I always say... ‘Be whatever you want, my boys. Just be sure that it makes you happy.

We hope you’re the happiest you can be, Sam.
