Sally-Jane Cameron has written for Parent24 on occasion, but this time she’s writing about the amazing gift her daughter wants to give. Rachel is full of heart; read Sally-Jane’s brief introduction and see if it inspires you (or even your kids) to help:

Who is Rachel?

Sally-Jane writes: My daughter Rachel has the most beautiful long strawberry blonde hair, people stop her in the shops just to touch it and tell her how beautiful it is. Rachel is a child who is more. Her reactions are bigger than most kids; she is louder, more honest, more enthusiastic- at times it can be quite exhausting to keep up with her. She has huge dreams and goals, she does nothing in half measures.

Her life dream is to be an Olympic swimmer and she works very hard at this every day.

Inspired by others, for others

The decision to donate her hair for a wig for someone with cancer has not been as easy one for her. She loves her hair. But encouraged by my friend Clare (who has short hair) and pictures of actress Emma Watson with her short hair Rachel has decided this is really something she wants to do. Hair grows again she says, and it can help another little girl feel pretty again.

But just cutting it is not enough for her, she asked me to find out how much it costs to make the wig and is now trying to raise the money for the costs too. More info on my blog:
