Nickelodeon's genius makes maths & science fun for kids
Primary school quiz from Nickelodeon & Melrose Cheese aims to improve competence in core academic subjects.

With South Africa ranked second last in maths and science competence according to the 2013 Global Information Technology Report, engaging kids in these sujects an early age is critical in order to develop a society that can keep up with the fast-paced technological advances globally.

If your kid has what it takes to be the Einstein, the Stephen Hawking or even the Sheldon Cooper of the future then kids and family channel Nickelodeon (DStv Channel 305) and Melrose Cheese have exactly the project for you!

Nickelodeon’s GENIUS is an interactive and engaging campaign designed to get SA kids inspired by maths and science…and to encourage them to learn more about these fascinating and important educational subjects.

Together, Nickelodeon and Melrose Cheese are inviting schools in Johannesburg and Cape Town to submit a team of 3 kids aged between 9-13 years who will compete against each other to demonstrate their knowledge, speed and precision in the two subjects. Regional heats are being held in Johannesburg and Cape Town during March and June 2014, before rounding up with a Grand Final and Gala Day in Johannesburg on 14 July.  The quiz begins in Cape Town at the Cape Town Science Centre on 19 April before moving onto Johannesburg at the Sci Bono Discovery Centre on 16 May.

The winning team wins an all expenses paid trip to Orlando, Florida to visit the Kennedy Space Centre (NASA) and they will also visit the Universal Orlando Theme Park where they will be treated to various themed rides and experiences including Spiderman, Shrek, Jurassic Park, Minion Mayhem and a tour of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

The competition is open to all students between the age of 9 to 13 years old from grade 3 to 7 in the Western Cape and Gauteng. Applications for the Cape Town heat are open between 14 February to 31 March 2014, and for the Johannesburg heat from 1 April to 6 May.
