This festive season, children and toy collectors alike, can look forward to an array of new products, as well as the latest editions of old favourites. Wanda Ambrosini, MD of leading toy distributor Prima Toys, describes what consumers can look forward to.
This year old time favourites such as Star Wars and Thundercats figurines and accessories have made a comeback. Consumers who enjoyed these toys in their youth will no doubt feel a pinch of nostalgia as they see their favourite toys back on the shelves.
On the topic of fashion, Bratz, the dolls with a passion for fashion, reveal styles that are edgier, prettier and more fashion forward than ever before. Bratz Crystalicious, Chic Mystique and Bratz Boutique are new introductions to the popular world of pint-sized pouting fashion dolls. A new line, ready to entice Bratz fans is Bratzillaz. They’re good witches with special powers which include, among others, mending broken hearts and the ability to talk to animals. Each doll comes with an augmented reality card that is used in an exciting online game.
Baby Born has been around for over twenty years and is still a firm favourite amongst girls aged three and up. True to life functions make role-play extremely realistic with new accessories such as the interactive kitchen, pony and scooter introduced earlier this year.
Lalaloopsy are a range of dolls that were launched in 2011. They’re inspired by the classic rag doll and take on the personality of the fabrics used to create them. Each doll comes with a wonderful back story, a pet that matches her personality and a name created especially for her.
Boys’ toys are extremely dynamic this year and besides the much-anticipated comeback of the Thundercats, there are many others to choose from, such as Roxx, Monsuno and 3D Twister. The 3D Twister is one of the first remote controlled cars to use 2.4 GHz technology, which makes it impressively fast and nimble. Roxx, the collectibles that have sparked an international craze are here and ready for kids to trade. Monsuno is a new line of action figurines and accessories, which is already proving to be extremely popular amongst boys aged 4 years and over.
There is still a strong demand for gadget toys, especially those that resemble and have a similar functionality to gadgets used by adults, such as digital cameras, E-readers and tablets. Leapfrog has recently released the latest version of its best selling tablet for kids, LeapPad2, aimed at children aged three and up. For kids that love reading, the VTech Storio, an E-Reader makes an ideal gift for children learning to read, while the VTech Kidizoom is perfect for kids who enjoy taking pictures and videos. This Festive Season there is something to grab every child’s imagination.
