Pets are a special part of any family and as much as we love snapping Instagram photos of them while they're sleeping, they can play a much more important role. Take a look at these amazing pets and the lives that they saved. 

1. Dog stops bear from attacking boy

A 5-year-old boy was recently attacked by a large bear while walking with his great-grandfather North of Tokyo in Odate. According to Times LIVE, the usually placid family dog, a six-year-old Shiba Inu saved her young owner. The dog, named Mego, barked and chased after the bear when it attacked the young boy and tore his clothing. Mego's owners were very grateful and said that the dog was rewarded with "meats and other treats".

2. Hero cat saves boy from vicious dog attack

In this astounding footage, a family cat can be seen protecting a small boy from a vicious dog attack. According to the YouTube user who uploaded the video, the child and his mother were both bitten during the unprovoked attack, resulting in the boy having to receive numerous stitches. It all happens very quickly, but you can see just how fast a rogue animal can hurt a child.

3. Dog saves child from abuse


There are some great reasons to have a dog as a pet with kids around, but one US family is calling their furry friend a lifesaver after the dog’s concern for their baby led to child abuse on the part of their nanny being exposed.

4. Amazing dog saves baby from sea

We love these good news stories: A family in Turkey managed to capture on video the moment their beloved family dog sprinted to prevent their baby from crawling into the sea. It’s amazing that a dog expresses such protective behaviour over a baby, but wonderful to see.
