Do you ever have those days when you wake up in the morning and have absolutely no idea what you're going to do with your kids today? I have them often which is why I've taken to planning our weeks.
As a stay-at-home mom to a preschooler and baby I need to find ways to get them out of the house, because cabin fever has been known to drive parents up the walls.
But also, I want to make their days happy and their childhoods memorable.
On her website, Adventure Clubs founder Janelle Schroy explains why she made this app: "I have four daughters and I always try to remember – they only get ONE childhood. I can never have these years back. I want to make as many memories as I can with them, filling their hearts with my love and presence, and providing one exciting experience after another.
"Through adventures, my daughters are exploring who they are, what they like and how they relate to the world around them.
"I wanted to make it easy for parents to do that. That’s why Adventure Clubs was created. I started it for my family. And now the rest of the world can have it too!"
Adventure Clubs is not only great for planning your adventures ahead of time or even on the day, you can also pay via the app so everything is sorted when you get there.
There is a wide variety of adventures to choose from. You kids can get active at a gymnastics class, creative at a playdough party, spend some time in nature going on little walks and take a tour of the fire or police station.
What I love about this is that my kids are learning through play and adventure.
And those are just the adventures we've gone on!
Each adventure is limited to a certain amount of children so it's a small group activity rather than a public event.
So how does it work?
When you open your app it will give you a list of adventures to scroll through. In this view you can glean a few things about the adventure:
- How far it is from your location
- What time the adventure is happening
- Where the adventure is happening
- The age range that this adventure is suitable for
- If it's premium adventure
- If it's fully booked.
Once you've chosen an adventure, you'll get a bit of a description of what will be happening, as well as all the information you'll need such as:
- Price
- Who else is going
- Things to remember (if you need to bring extra cash or anything from home)
- If they adventure is pram-friendly
- What kind of parking is available.
If the adventure is full, you can hit the "Notify me for a spot" button and you'll get a notification if one becomes available.
If there are spots available, press the Count Us In button to confirm and pay. That's it. It's so simple to get your kids out and about doing fun things.
It's a great app to get your kids out and about and meeting new people. It's available in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, so if you're in any of these areas, give it a try.
Adventure Clubs is free for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
