"Mommy I’m bored." Sounds familiar, right?

Having your little ones at home all day everyday for weeks on end can take a lot of energy.

So, instead of wishing for schools to open again, here’s how to hear these words a lot less this holiday:

1. First prepare

By now, you should have done your research of different child-friendly events in your neighbourhood. This should include the costs and what will be required of you upon arrival. Refer to your community newspapers, the internet, friends and family on what other parents are planning on doing with their little ones.

2. At-home activities

Going out is exciting, especially for the young ones. For those days when you’ll be at home, make sure you’re fully armed for the day. This will depend on what your child enjoys. You’ve got the option of organising a movie date with either just the two of you or friends. If that fails, a slumber party is always the way to go. Cute and fluffy outfits, music and delicious treats should knock them out quite early in the night.

3. Play car wash

For busy mommies who never get the time to wash their cars, this is the perfect activity for you and your child. Have cute sponges and buckets and get them to help you with cleaning your car. Children would do anything for a chance to get wet and dirty, use it to your advantage!

4. Get cooking

Pick out a recipe that you’ll both enjoy and make this as a fun family activity. Do a simple meal like pancakes which won’t take up too much of your time or a complicated one that requires your undivided attention, like baking a whole cake. Allowing the little ones to taste what they prepared will sure make them feel like achievers, so mommy, do the right thing.

5. Go for a picnic

Picnics don’t have to be expensive, if you have the luxury of a backyard at your home, set up a blanket, basket filled with treats and games to keep you entertained. Use this time to bond and catch up with your mini me.
