Discipline made me the man I am

Readers respond to Ban the Smack! by Scott Dunlop.

I sincerely hope that this law is never passed in our country, not because I am a parent, but rather because I can see how proper discipline has helped me become the man I am.  I understand that it is used as a form of abuse in some cases, but I would rather risk that than have a generation which is even more undisciplined than the one I am living in now... And no, sending a kid to their room does not have the same affect.

Throughout my years of growing up I was given a lot of freedom, but also taught to obey and be respectful of others. If I didn't do what I was told or did something wrong knowingly I was punished accordingly. It obviously hurt at the time, but as I look back on my life I can truly say that I appreciate the way my parents raised me.
