Family holiday traditions

We have always tried to be fair when it comes to Christmas time, and would alternate by spending one Christmas with the "in laws" and the next with the "out laws".

Basically this meant that one year we spent with my family and the next with hubby's family!

With my family we always go together at my parent's house and would spend the day playing music, or my dad would get his guitar out and it would end up with the whole family in a sing along, this would be the highlight for the kids, then the braai with as much salads as we could think of and of course the puddings!, the kids would braai their marshmallows and stick bread and after eating go to bed early to wait for "Father Xmas".

With hubby's family we normally go to the holiday cottage at the sea and the men and kids spend their day on the beach fishing! A braai is of course the in thing and loads of salads (we end up eating "left overs" for the next few days) Christmas day is spent eating cold foods and salads and trifles galore, and of course; the fishing!

Two different traditions but our children love doing it this way and although my parents have now passed away we have decided to keep things as they were with just a different destination for us to get together!
