Parenting can be taxing
'Just when I thought I was too old to fall pregnant, my positive pregnancy test confirmed the worst.'

I am a parent to a 19 year old, twin 16 year olds and then a 5 year old. Parenting all of them as well as holding down a full time job is taxing to say the least. When the 16 year olds are in matric the 5 year old will be in Grade 1. And here we go again, the school runs, the sports days, school meetings etc. It’s exhausting just thinking about it!

The three older children are from my first marriage and the youngest is from my 2nd marriage. Just when I thought I was too old to fall pregnant again, my positive pregnancy test confirmed the worst. Being an optimistic person, I believe I was given another child to love for a reason. He brings us lots of laughter and keeps us on our toes. I am not looking forward to the day one of this friends asks if I am his granny. I will be devastated.

I find it difficult fitting in with the younger parents, especially at children’s parties and try to avoid attending as much as possible – unless there is a glass of wine on offer which makes the event slightly more bearable.

All in all, I wouldn’t change my responsibilities for the world, but at the same time, would love some ME time.

Dream on …………
