This special experience is called “Kids @ The Center” as the organisation will bring young families to the city centre with the long-term vision that the city can work together to prioritise their youngest citizens. The theme for the day is “Seen – Heard – Celebrated” which epitomises the message of letting our children be seen, heard and celebrated by our city and its families across all walks of life.
With a jam-packed day filled with activities there is something for the whole family to enjoy. Kicking off at 10am at the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town there will be many different stations where children (and parents) can enjoy, learn and play. Starting off with the “Affirmation Station”, CT EMBRACE will have volunteers continuously clapping and blowing bubbles as children walk through this path. From there the opportunities are endless with some of the activities including:
- An open workshop of circus acts and tricks from Action Arte
- Origami making from Origami for Africa
- A reading corner with activities from Nal’ibali
- Baby and me pilates with Steorra pilates and NurtureZone
- The RedZebra Foundation marching band and gumboot dancers
- Face painting, playdough and many arts and crafts with the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Pretty Pride
- A special performance from The Jungle Theatre Company
“We would love to see as many Cape Town families as possible popping in on Saturday. It’s been an incredible exercise in cross-city partnerships and I think we can learn to collaborate well to positively impact the lives of young children. This is just the start,” says Julie Mentor, Project Leader at CT EMBRACE.
