Firstly, be reassured, the above mentioned "comics", in particular, Calvin and Hobbes and Asterix, are actually very well written, and although many of the satirical and historical references will go over his head, he will still relate to the humour on his level, which is fantastic. Because he is obviously quite a visual child, I would encourage continuing in that vein, but slowly introducing more text. The following suggestions all have lots of funky pictures and captions in amongst the text.
