Lack of sleep

I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been sleeping very lightly throughout my pregnancy. What I find is that I no longer have deep sleep but REM sleep and wake up constantly through the night. I also used to be a person who enjoys afternoon naps especially during the weekend when I am not working. I can no longer sleep during the day. If I decide to take a nap I will toss and turn on the bed, no matter how tired I am. This has been worrying me and I thought at this stage of the pregnancy with me getting heavier and more tired at the end of each day, sleep would come easily and last throughout the night. But I am battling to sleep for long periods, I wake up after every 2 hours. I am not suffering from stress, I don’t know what the cause could be. Please help.

Underweight Hippo

Good day, Marlise Kindly ease my mind if your able to. I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant... My biggest challenge is food, I don't think I'm eating as much as I should because of my never-ending nausea thus I'm concerned that the baby is not getting sufficient nutrients. I try to eat at least 3 meals everyday with snacks in between, my tummy seems small for my trimester. Meal times are always stressing for me. Please help.

Placenta Previa

Hi Marlise I am 30 weeks pregnant, and last week I was admitted by my OBGYN due to some light bleeding. He ran tests and asked questions, then concluded that I had a low-lying placenta. He immediately told me that I would most likely have to have a c-section and that he would try to ensure that this did not happen before 34 weeks. I freaked out and was just a wreck after hearing the news. my birth plan, completely natural, was basically being written out. But after reading up on the condition, of which I had never heard before, I realised there is a possibility of the situation naturally subsiding and I could still have the natural birth I plan. How do I present my findings on the matter to my OBGYN without sounding as if I think I know better with all his knowledge and experience? I think he's a great doctor, but I also feel that he doesn't understand the importance of natural birth to me.

Epidural

I'm 34 years old and about to give birth. I'm due in July. I had 2 children before and now I’m scared to death to give birth normally, so my friend suggested I have an epidural procedure, when I went for monthly check up at the clinic I was told I had high blood pressure and gave me medication for that. Is this procedure possible for me as I have high blood pressure? I now experience walking problems seems the baby is pressing down my cervix so it’s hard for me to walk, I try to exercise. Also, is it done at public hospitals as I have no medical aid? Please advise.

Natural after emergency Caesar?

I had an emergency c-section 5years ago for my daughter due to her heart beat dropping. I'm curious to know, if I don't have the option of natural birth as opposed to an elective Caesar? There are no complications, the placenta is fine, and baby is growing well at 22 weeks. Do I stand a chance of rupture on the old scar, even after 5 years if I opt for natural?

Scared of being "dupped" in to C-section

I am 13 weeks pregnant now and have started thinking about how I would like to deliver. I have decided that I would like to deliver naturally, however, I have been hearing a lot of stories about doctors performing C-sections on patients wanting natural births due to the convenience of it. The reasons they give range from high blood pressure to baby's distress. What I am concerned about is that the Dr telling me a C-section is needed when in fact it isn’t. How do I ensure that the information I receive from my doctor is correct and not just an excuse for a C-section?

35 weeks

Hi Marlise At my last gynea visit I was 34 weeks and he said that my placenta is growing faster than my baby which means that I will have to give birth at 38 weeks because if I carry longer she may be stillborn. My son is 6 years old and he was born at 39 weeks vacuum extraction weighing 3.1kgs, no other complications. I gave natural/normal birth with him and I would prefer it again instead of a Caesar. My question is this: Is this a normal problem that occurs during pregnancy as it is the first time I hear about it? I will be 38 weeks on 17 Feb 2012. Many thanks Ayshah

Correct measurements

My hubby and i went for my 11 week scan today and in all the excitement of hearing baby's heartbeat and getting a first real 'look', I didn't think to ask the length of Baby. The Dr didn't tell us either. There are two measurements on the scan, one says 1.2cm and the other says 8.8cm. Which is which, please?

pregnancy

Hi there, I am so confused. I was put on Fertomid 50 in May, saw my period in June 3 times. July no period up to this day. My breasts are extremely sore and HUGE. I keep think that my period is due since my breasts are so tender, but nothing yet. I also urinate more frequently. I am terrified to do a pregnancy test. Please please please advise. Is there a possibility that i might be pregnant or is it a fact that I want to be pregnant that I'm experiencing these symptoms?

Pregnancy after Miscarriage

I miscarried at 12weeks last year. I unfortunately had no medical aid and had to go to a state hospital. When they did the scan it showed that baby was only 7 weeks, which I know for a fact to be impossible. The Dr didn't check for a heart beat, even though I insisted and then instructed me that I had to have a D+C to stop the bleeding. The one Dr that assisted in the scan told me that I had an inverted uterus and that this could be the cause as it can cause an incorrect reading of the age, she also told me that it could be my hormones, or the rhesus factor. They wouldn't do tests coz baby was only "7 weeks" It was all very surreal on the day and incredibly devastating. We are ready to start again and I'm now on a medical aid, but this miscarriage still haunts me, I'd like to know what can I do to prevent this happening again. I read that the uterus can tilt because of the ligaments softening. Is there hormones I can take. Please explain Rhesus. My mom told me that she only had to have the injection once the baby was born? Is this different when you have a second child. What should I ask my gynae to check? Please help so that I can be the mommy I so badly want to be.

Overweight & Pregnant

I am currently about 7 weeks pregnant and I am 45kg overweight. I have been battling a weight problem all my life and this pregnancy was unexpected. I am 1.7m tall and quite big bone. A large amount of my weight is on my tummy and I am concerned about having a healthy pregnancy. Before I fell pregnant I was eating a fairly healthy diet, but I was battling with exercise due to my desk job and other time constraints. I am even more consciousbout my eating but i am not cutting calories. I have no chronic ailments and am in fairly good health except for my obvious weight concern. I'm in the Cape Town area and I would like to know what steps I can take to having a healthy pregnancy. I realise that my weight is a problem but I will do right thing for the sake of my baby and it's future health.
