Weaning my 12 month old
Hi Susan,
My baby girl is now just over 1 year (walking and very active). She is tall and petite, but is not under or overweight. I am trying to wean her now, but its a frustrating losing battle. She is teething (molars) and only want to drink breast milk when she is teething. She hardly eat any food. Today was a good day: breakfast - breast milk, lunch - 2 bites of a margerine toastie, 2 tsp vanilla yogurt, apple juice, 2 sips of nido growing up milk, 2 cherio's, at 3 breast milk, at 5 breast milk, dinner - 1 teaspoon mince and peas, 1 teaspoon vanilla yogurt, 1 teaspoon peanutbutter (i will make or give her anything she will eat), tiny bite vieanna, sips apple juice (apple juice, maybe 60 ml the whole day, yesterday 200ml for the day), little bit of water. Then I put her to sleep on the breast at 7/8pm. Good night she will sleep till 11 or maybe 1, then short feed, then 3am she is awake. She drinks, but does not go back to sleep. Eventually out of desperation I move her to our room, she falls asleep drinking but continue to drink till 5/6am and I am normally still awake when my husband get up. Then she falls asleep for maybe an hour (and I get an hour sleep, sometimes 10 minutes). She sleeps from 9-10 in the morning or 12-1 and then 3-4 or 4-5pm. I want to wean her, but know I need to get her to eat first? Can you help? I give her ponstan and panado for the teeth + teejel and sometimes even rub cherrie on the gums (when I am really really desperate to get her to sleep). I am sure the sleeping will be better when she eats and stop drinking breast milk. Also I cant get her to sleep without breastfeeding? Tried singing, rocking, got a sheep that make sounds of heartbeat, doedoe blankie... not getting anywhere? Thanks for your advice! Regards Karin
