my son is 19mnt old and does not want to stop breastfeeding. he still wakes up between 2 and 3 hours every night. he eats very little and does'nt want to take a bottle, dummy or sippy cup. he sips on a bottle like he is drinking out of a cup. my concern is at night. i need to return to work and need to know that he will be ok

Hi Christa Setting a routine will help, but you must be sure what your intended goals are. You need to be the boss of breastfeeding at this stage. You will need to teach him when it is ok and when it is not ok to breastfeed. I wouldn’t stop breastfeeding all together seeing the benefits of breastfeeding past the age of two has been documented. Have him assessed for growth and development. Make sure his is not anemic (low iron levels) and have no other underlying illness. It might also be beneficial to have him checked by an occupational therapist to assess his oral functioning, it might be that he is tactile sensitive in his mouth and that might be the reason why he does not like food and not able to take a sippy cup or straw.
