Most parents agree that a child’s first birthday is a special milestone. Some celebrate with a small group of family and some cake, but according to the Daily Mail, a UK celebrity party planner has shared how he arranged a first birthday party for twins with an Alice in Wonderland/Peter Pan theme at a cost of £70,000, or R1 115,000.
"They don't know what's happening"
Steve Duggan says it’s not unusual, either, claiming to plan parties like these at least once a month. The themed bash included elaborate table settings, garden decorations and children’s entertainers dressed as characters from the books. He also insists that “non-celebrities tend to splash out far more than their A-list counterparts”, adding that “You'd be surprised by some of the things we have. It’s more to make that child feel totally special even though they don't know what’s happening”.

The competition to have the most extravagant party is growing here in SA, too. Parents are becoming more open to the idea of sparing no cost for their little ones. Bespoke cakes, professional entertainers and exclusive venues are all props used to keep up with the Joneses, although we’ve yet to hear of anyone who has splashed out such a fortune on a baby’s birthday party locally.
