She was a vampire-slaying badass who occasionally ventured into the movie world, while he shattered hearts as one of the most charming teen idols... nothing says the 90s quite like the iconic duo that is Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Since tying the knot in 2002, the pair have managed to successfully keep the world out of their private lives, earning them the title of Hollywood's most low-key couple.

Now in their 40s, the former teen stars have begun opening up about life as spouses and parents, sharing the cutest images of their two children, Charlotte Grace and Rocky James, even including throwback moments we had hoped to see way back (but didn't) when they first officiated their union.

"Freddie thinks I’m harder on Charlotte and he’s harder on Rocky"

As parents, the two are on the stricter side, with Sarah confessing they're both on the same page when it comes to parenting styles.

“Freddie thinks I’m harder on Charlotte and he’s harder on Rocky. We’re both very strict. Kids need limits.

“My daughter was doing this thing lately where she was asking me for a cup of milk and not drinking it. So I told her that every time she’d ask me for a cup of milk and not drink it, I would take a quarter out of her piggy bank. Someone has to pay for that milk,” she told interviewers

And as far as mommy-shaming goes, Sarah is as tough as they come, commenting that it would only be possible to shame her if one of her children grew up to be a serial killer.

Where are they now

Apart from the odd guest role, voice acting and short-lived projects, Sarah and Freddie have placed their acting careers on the back burner, focusing on projects that speak to their shared love for food instead, with Freddie penning Back to the Kitchen in 2016 and Sarah releasing Stirring up Fun with Food a year later.

Sarah's gone a step further, co-founding Foodstirs, a company specialising in the online sale of kid-friendly, organic baking kits and pre-mixes.

"We were just friends for a good two years before we ever went on a date"

Celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary this past September (practically forever in Hollywood couple years), the two get regular requests for their secrets to a long-lasting marriage.

In a 2017 interview, Freddie said that for him, the key to a successful marriage is friendship.

"We were just friends for a good two years before we ever went on a date. She knew what kind of guy I was. She knew what my morals were, what my priorities were and vice versa. We already kind of knew all the faults in the other person."

Speaking to talk show host Harry Connick Jr., Sarah's top tips include separate credit cards, and separate bathrooms, joking that there are some things even husbands shouldn't know.

"I feel like there are certain things that should just be kept your own and they never need to know."

Sharing additional words of wisdom, captioning an Instagram post, Sarah's wrote, "Marriage is like a deck of cards. In the beginning, all you need is two hearts and a diamond. But years later, you wish you had a club and a spade."

We're sure a sense of humour is yet another secret ingredient to a lasting marriage. Here's wishing the Prinzes 16 more years of happiness.
