A few mom's share their exciting recipes in preparation for the Muslim festival Eid.

Nasrene Sheik shares her Basic biscuit recipe

  • 250g butter
  • 3/4cup
  • sugar
  • a littke bit of oil
  • 1/4 cup maizena
  • Enough flour to make a soft dough.
  1. Beat butter,sugar and oil with a hand mixer until light and creamy, (about 5minitus)
  2. Add maizena and beat again.
  3. Sift flour in a little at a time and mix with a wooden spoon until you get a soft dough.
  4. Cut out or pipe through nozzle and bake until lite brown underneath.
  5. Enjoy.....

Burfee, with compliments of Fatima Gathoo Danka

You need:

  • 1 kilo Klim
  • 4 cups Fresh Cream
  • 1 large tin Nestle Cream
  • 3 ½ cups Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • Elachi Powder
  • Ground Almonds


  1. Take ½ tin nestle cream & mix with Klim. Make breadcrumbs. Add Elachi powder & Almonds.
  2. Cook ½ tin nestle cream & fresh cream on low heat with a piece of butter. Cook the cream till it gets thick & yellow stirring all the time.
  3. Make a syrup with water & sugar.
  4. Mix syrup, klim & cream mixture quickly.
  5. Set in container.

Try Zahirra Kathrada-Saeed's delicious Ferrero milkshake:

You need:

  • 1 litre milk
  • 6 scoop choc ice cream
  • 6 ferreros
  • 1 medium sized bar one chopped or nutella


  1. Put milk & half ice cream in blender and blend well.
  2. Add all the chocolates and blend.
  3. Divide leftover ice cream in glasses pour milkshake over.
  4. Chill in freezer
  5. Garnish with chopped ferreros.
  6. Serve with long spoonz


Tarryn Samiera Makka is making Saucy Portugese Chicken to take to family lunch:

You need:

  • 1 chicken
  • 2 level tsp robertsons chicken spice,
  • 1 full tea sp coarse red chillies,
  • salt
  • 1 tea sp fine jeeroo,
  • 1 table sp lemon juice,
  • 1 tea sp crushed garlic.


Marinade chicken and cook in garlic butter and a little olive oil.


  • 1 tub fresh cream,
  • 1/4 cup nandos garlic peri sauce or any garlic portuguese sauce,
  • 1 table sp lemon juice,
  • 1/4 tea sp parsely,
  • 1 table sp tamatoe paste.
  1. Cook in butter.
  2. Once butter is melted pour over cooked chicken and grill for few minutes(ps- don’t dry sauce out) garnish with parsely.
  3. Serve with savoury rice and greek salad.
