There’s a new Hulu original children’s television series worth watching with the kids!

Based on the popular children’s book by Daniel Errico, The Bravest Knight follows the story of a young, former pumpkin farmer, and his journey as he attempts to become the bravest knight who ever lived. Sir Cedric shares his stories with his 10-year-old adopted daughter, Nia – an aspiring knight herself – who he’s raising with the man of his dreams, Prince Andrew.

But the cast of the show, specifically Sir Cedric (voiced by T.R. Knight) and Prince Andrew (voiced by Wilson Cruz) want parents and kids to know that while LGBTQ representation is so important in the show, it’s a series that is about so much more than just two gay dads.

T.R. Knight shares his personal experience of growing up and feeling “starved” and “lonely” without seeing enough LGBTQ representation on screen. But Knight explains that they aren’t trying to focus on this one aspect as "there is so much that this show gives."

Wilson Cruz commented that the show doesn’t attempt to explain homosexuality, nor throw it in your face. “We’re talking about the love of a family,” he says.

“We’re always talking about, or looking to leaders and presidents... to help us change the world. When, in reality, if we want to change the world and we want to make the world a better place, it starts at the threshold of our homes, and it starts with the duty of a parent. How do we teach compassion? How do we teach young people to be better people, to be better citizens, to be better to each other? So if we really want to change the world we start with our children.

“LGBTQ families, are just families. And I think if you watch this show you’ll see that parenting is about the child. It’s about what you’re teaching and giving that child. It's not about what gender those parents are, it’s about how much love you can give that child...”
