Momsplaining with Kristen Bell is exactly what the internet needed

Now, we’ve all heard of the term mansplaining. Chris McEvoy writes, “People explain things to people all the time, but a mansplainer turns what should be a constructive act into a passive aggressive and condescending verbal assault intended to remind you that since you’re a woman, you couldn’t possibly know more about any subject than him.”

But have you heard of momsplaining?

Momsplaining – which is way less insulting – is when a mom explains something usually parenting-related, that they probably know a little more about after giving birth to a little human, staying up with said human all night, trying to get them to latch and cleaning their nappies, and their entire bodies, after their poop somehow made its way right up their backs.

Momsplainers might actually know a little more about parenting-related subjects than a non-parent because while motherhood and parenting can be magical, it’s usually a miracle if you make it through the trenches unscathed, with your boobies still intact.

To quote the BreakWomb moms, momsplaining is when “a mom explains something to someone – generally a non-parent – about parenthood that seems super obvious, but must be stated.”

Luckily for all the new moms out there, cast member of Bad Moms and princess Ana herself has started a new web series: Momsplaining with Kristen Bell.

Kristen appeared on The Ellen Show – episodes will be released on Ellen Degeneres’s YouTube channel – and said, “My truth is that I didn’t even know that I wanted to have kids. I don’t even really like anybody else’s kids. I mean, kids are cute but they’re sort of dirty and gross. The idea of having them... I was like not super into it and then I got pregnant. I was like okay, here we go. So I needed an outlet and this is perfect.”

She continues, “I basically help new moms or current moms or expectant moms walk through the stages of children, with a little bit of comedy.”

In an opening montage at the beginning of each episode Kristen explains, “Parenting is hard AF. I created two tiny humans. Does that make me an expert? Not exactly. But I do know moms can learn from each other. And I want to share what I know.”

Episodes will be released every Friday but we’ve got the first 3 for you right here. Check out Kristen explain childbirth with an elastic band and a watermelon, take over a party store’s intercom to shop for a fellow mom’s birthday party, and have kids reveal their moms’ deepest darkest secrets while they watch through a two-way mirror.

We're sure expectant and new moms will be trembling in their boots after watching the series, while others may start feeling like maybe, just maybe, they aren't alone in the struggle. One thing's for sure though, through the fear and relief, everyone will have a laugh or two at Kristen's hilarious momsplaining.
