20+ years down the line you find out that your children have been abused. All of them now have pschological problems and one has been a total failure in school and also in his adult life. Looking back over the past years you recall and remember incidences which now, tell you, were tell-tales signs of abuse. What now, how do I change/mend these broken lives?

Answer

Many parents have never had access to information on how to recognise the signs of child abuse. It is only in recent years that we are becoming increasingly aware as the topic is discussed more openly. The important thing is to ensure that these children, now adults, receive family support and psychological counsellng so that they can move forward with their lives. The parent should also receive counselling and will in this way not only be able to heal any emotions they have developed but to better understand the experiences of your children both then and going forward. You can play a positive role in their healing by learning more and getting involved.
