"Fertility treatment a success"

accreditation

Cate Pike, mom to Andrew (6 months), tells about het successes with AI treatment

My husband and I battled for 2 years to fall pregnant. We were both young, active, healthy individuals and thought we would fall pregnant in no time!

After a year of trying, we went to a gynae and he recommended I go on Clomid without examining us in detail. We tried for 6 months with no success. We then consulted a fertility specialist who did a thorough examination of both of us and it turned out my husband had low sperm quality. I was fine.

We decided to go the AI (artificial incimination, now known as intrauterine insemination [IUI]) route as IVF (In vitro fertilisation) was too expensive. The docter recommended we try at least 3 times, as then IVF would become financially the best option due to adding costs.

We tried AI twice with no success. The third time came around and with no hope, we decided it would be the last for a while as I was taking strain with the medicine. To our great surprise, I tested positive on the blood test at 5 weeks. I then had to wait until 8 weeks for the urine test to work!! Our son was born on the 8 February 2011.

  • An update to our story is that we have just found that I am 10 weeks pregnant with our 2nd (conceived naturally!!) We are very shocked but super excited. Our little ones will be twelve months apart! Just goes to show that when all the pressure's off, nature takes its own course!
