Parent24 : Focus : common ailments : Baby bottle syndrome

Baby bottle syndrome

What is it?
Damage to primary teeth, especially the top four teeth caused when your baby falls asleep when you breastfeed him or goes to sleep with a bottle of milk, fruit juice or sweetened fluid (such as tea with sugar).

What to do

Let your baby finish drinking before you put him down. If your baby is used to drinking fruit juice when he goes to sleep, dilute it gradually. Try to remove the bottle as soon as possible. If the teeth are already damaged, see a dentist for advice on how to keep them in the best condition for as long as possible.
