“I can’t love you- I don’t want kids”

accreditation
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton’s marriage went pear-shaped after just three years because he “didn’t want kids”, according to one of Thornton’s earlier wives, says the Mail Online.

Now famous as the celebrity mother of a large brood of children, Jolie was married to Thornton for three years before they called it a day.

This revelation came from Melissa deBin-Parish, married to Thornton before Jolie. Parish had one child with Thornton before the two split when their daughter was 18 months old- their daughter is now 32, and serving 20 years in prison for manslaughter of a minor.

Many couples choose not to have children, and are often criticised for being selfish, or too career-orientated. Some child-free people criticise those who do have children for adding to the over-population of the earth, or accuse them of a narcissistic desire to reproduce a child which will look like them, or carry on the family line.

Not everyone likes kids. That’s fair enough. But if you’re in a relationship with someone who doesn’t want kids, and you do, then be prepared for a relationship-threatening challenge. After all, the options are to trick that person into having kids by sabotaging the birth control methods, or spend a lifetime trying to convince them to change their minds. Or to split.

Maybe you have kids from a previous relationship, and your baby-making days are over. Perhaps you fret about the impact kids have on the environment, or dislike the way society seems to be falling apart and is a dangerous place for children. You may also have given up trying to conceive after a long battle with infertility. There are many reasons  to NOT go forth and multiply, just make sure that the person you love agrees with your decision.
