Here we are at the start of the silly season: All over South Africa, tired grown-ups are getting ready to have some annual down-time. Perhaps the wine will flow a little freely, or maybe there’s just something romantic about the sun and the sea, but, in nine months time, we’ll see a lot more new South Africans:
According to statistics, September is the busiest birth month in South Africa.
That means there will be plenty of conceptions happening right now, so, if you aren’t planning on growing your family, it may be a good idea to double-check whatever precautionary measures you use.
It can be fun to interpret statistics, for example, November and February are the months with the lowest birth rates in SA. Why? Well, you're welcome to take your own guess. Some statisticians reckon that the changes in season inspire increased affection. Of course, when people wink on St. Valentine’s Day, and hint that there will be a rush of births in nine months time, the stats prove them wrong...
