"You're only allowed one child"

accreditation
The world is overpopulated. We know this, the scientists keep telling us. But people still don't understand how much strain human beings put on this one planet we have.

So if people aren't listening to the clever scientists who tell us we're killing the planet, is it the role of the government to step in and literally say: "Oi! Enough guys!"? The Afghan government thinks so. Despite being a war torn country, according to the United Nations, Afghan women manage to have 6.3 children on average over their lifetime. So the government "has launched a 'multi-sectoral effort,' which would include the use of contraceptives" says Afghan Health Minister Suraya Dalil on Reuters.

China has long had a one-child policy. Where all married couples in urban areas are only allowed to have one child. They get fined if they have a second child and lose out on bonuses they might have gotten at work. One child households also get a discount on school fees.

So while this all may be very noble and Captain Planet like, is it fair? Shouldn't you be allowed to decide how many children you can afford?

Should the government be allowed to limit how many kids you have?
