Men in kilts ‘more fertile’

Wearing a kilt helps to keep sperm cooler and healthier.

"What does a Scotsman wear under his kilt", the saying goes- traditionally, the answer is nothing, and a new study conducted by Scottish researchers suggests that kilt-wearing men who don’t wear underwear are more fertile, according to the Mail Online.

There are some compelling reasons for this:
  • “Wearing tight undergarments increased the temperature of the air surrounding the testicles by 3.5 degrees Celsius.
  • In 1990 when experts were able to show that tight pants increased the temperature deep inside the testicles.
  • Wearing a kilt traditionally - without underpants - could provide the ideal environment for sperm to thrive.
  • For testicles to produce adequate levels of sperm, they need to be three degrees Celsius lower than body temperature.”
So wearing a kilt instead of tight trousers creates a much better scrotal environment, which is in turn better for sperm production.

It's all in the knees...

Just in case you’re not convinced, though the Scottish Medical Journal study also makes some less verifiable claims:
  • “Wearing a kilt provides strong psychological benefits too as ‘it will get you noticed no matter where you are”.
  • “Research has shown that wearing a kilt gives a man a strong sense of masculinity and freedom. Many women are attracted to men in kilts.”
For men who are looking to increase their fertility as one half of a trying to conceive couple, it may be worthwhile getting rid of those skinny jeans, and manning-up, Scottish style.

Would you wear a kilt to increase your chances of fertility?
