Ear infections

This occurs when a cold, throat infection, or allergy attack causes fluid to become trapped in the middle ear.

Symptoms:

  • Earache may be accompanied by a fever, a cold or a general feeling of being unwell.

Seriousness:

  • Should be seen by a doctor.

Treatment:

  • Give liquid paracetamol to relieve pain and fever.
  • Don’t put anything in the ear, but put something warm on the ear, like a hot water bottle covered with a towel.
  • Prop your child up in bed if lying down makes it worse.
