What is it?
Swollen glands, fever, sore throat and general aches and pains are the symptoms of this viral infection. It may also cause discomfort in the abdomen as it can affect the spleen and other internal organs. Most people who get glandular fever have very mild symptoms and it passes within a week or two. What to do
Keep the child at home and encourage her to rest. Relieve fever with paracetamol, and by bathing her in lukewarm (not cold) water. In rare cases, the aches and fatigue can continue for months, so see the doctor if it does not pass within two weeks. An antiviral medication may be recommended to help boost the immune system in these cases.
