Thrush

An infection of the mouth caused by the candida fungus, also known as yeast. 

Symptoms:

• Reluctance to feed due to sore mouth.
• Candida albicans (as thrush is known) is a yeast infection that commonly occurs in babies under a year old. 

Seriousness:

• Speak to your clinic sister or pharmacist. 

Treatment:

• Antifungal gel or drops for your baby's mouth, and an antifungal cream for your nipples if you are breastfeeding. 
• If you are bottle-feeding, disinfect bottles and teats properly to ensure there is no reinfection.
