What is it?
If your child develops a sudden, very itchy, raised rash, this is probably urticaria. It’s usually caused by an allergy, either to food or to something in the environment. The child may be very uncomfortable with the rash, but it rarely lasts long.

What to do

A cool bath can soothe the itching, and calamine lotion will also give relief. If your child has a known allergy, keep an antihistamine handy, as this can help relieve symptoms if given quickly. If your child has other symptoms such as swelling in the throat or breathing difficulties, get him to a doctor.
