Self-marking exams for matrics!
Wanting to help his little brother through matric, Obed Dube developed a website with online exams that students can take – with instant answers!
When Tobi Dube hit matric, brother Obed got frustrated with the lack of resources available to help him through this important year. So he created interactive exams that mark themselves, using past matric exam papers, to help Tobi.
"I could not understand why my younger brother had to struggle to find, download, and print past exams only for him to write them and no one would mark the papers," he explains.
After lots of academic investigations, setbacks, sleepless nights and even questioning if a solution indeed existed, he stumbled upon years of proven case studies that had helped students increase their academic performance around the world.
Learning from the case studies, his research was submitted to The University of South Africa, who assessed the research on improving students academic performance using past exams. Obed was invited to present the innovative work at the ICDE (International Council For Open And Distance Education) that hosted 200 delegates representing the top educational institutions from 70 countries.
Using his research, he built an application on the cloud and hired teachers and tutors to turn past exam papers into a multiple-choice format so that a computer programme could easily mark it.
