IXL

IXL is a great website with math exercises from preschool to grade 12. Also available as iPad and Android app, it corrolates with SA's national curriculum, offers unlimited questions in more than 2,500 skills, tracks progress, sends detailed reports and offers rewards when the child reaches a milestone. Membership available from R89 per month.

A maths tutor on a tablet: this maths learning programme for iPad and Android covers programmes from grade R to grade 6. It is visually effective and interactive, and the child receives personal attention from a tutor who marks and guides the child with worksheet-level feedback. Reward points motivite your child and you will get weekly reports tracking your child’s progress.

Via Afrika says, "We typically see a 2–5 times improvement in performance within 7 to 10 weeks of using the programme for three 45 minute sessions a week." This app/programme is already very popular internationally and is now available in South Africa, based on the CAPS curriculum.

My Cyberwall

My Cyberwall aims to encourage learning and improve results and is specifically targeted at the 9 to 12 age group, although older kids can also benefit from the resources. The materials include hundreds of fully illustrated topics, online activities, video links, high-quality printables, activities and answer sheets and are great for projects, research and homework. It currently includes maths, English, natural science and technology, geography, history and life skills, all aligned with the South African curriculum.
