Running out of baby formula in the middle of the night is definitely an emergency when it results in an upset baby.

Mother-of-five Shannon Bird from Utah in the US ran out of formula for her six-month-old baby girl at 2am and decided to call the police for assistance to ensure that her little one was fed, PEOPLE reported.

According to Fox News, Shannon, whose breastmilk dried up, had also run out of formula.

Her husband was out of town, so the mom resorted to phoning 911, hoping that they’d be able to help with her emergency.

“She [the baby] was screaming. I called my husband and we were brainstorming. I started calling neighbours and teenagers in the area and my little brother and no one was awake,” the mom explained in the recorded emergency call obtained by KSLA5.

“I’ve never been in this predicament ever. My milk just literally dried out. This is my fifth kid and this has never happened.”

Officials who were on duty first delivered four litres of store milk but when they discovered that the baby was too young for regular milk, they headed back to the store to purchase baby formula.

The officers left the formula with the distressed mother and refused to let her pay for any of it.

Shannon was pleasantly surprised by the officers’ kind gesture, saying she’d originally called them to assist with protecting her kids while she went to purchase the formula herself.
