Christmas for kids should be dreamy, idyllic and a day they’ll look back on in adulthood and smile.
Many children often look forward to opening their brightly wrapped presents in a home with a Christmas tree and decorations – but that’s not the reality for everyone.
One seven-year-old girl wrote a heartbreaking letter to Santa asking for a home and food for her family this Christmas.
The unnamed child dropped the letter in a special Santa mailbox inside the L6 Community Centre in Liverpool in the UK, Mirror UK reports.
“Dear Father Christmas, can you help?” the letter starts off.
“Can we have a home for Christmas? Mom wants us to be all together. Can you give us some food and can I have just a nice doll for Christmas?”
A photo of the letter was shared on Twitter by Gerald Woodhouse, the Labour Councillor for Liverpool, garnering several sympathetic responses, FOX news reports.
“Actually brought me to tears. Sometimes I don’t appreciate how lucky I am but tonight I do,” one user wrote.
“A child asking Santa for a home and some food. 21st Century UK, rolling back the centuries,” another commented.
Gerald has started a fundraiser to help the L6 centre over the Christmas period
The money raised will support deprived families who depend on the centre over Christmas and Easter.
