From drinking castor oil with orange juice to brisk walking – moms-to-be have been known to try all sorts of weird and wonderful things to induce labour when they’re overdue.

But April Stuart Macrae took things to the next level.

The dancer from Glasgow in Scotland has become an overnight internet star after recording herself doing some hip-hop dance moves in an attempt to bring on those contractions.

One of her friends suggested that she “just dance it out” – and she did just that, recording her epic moves from her own bedroom.

The astounding footage shows how the 24-year-old effortlessly dances while being nine months pregnant. She certainly wasn’t afraid to whip her hair around and move her hips – even though she was in excruciating pain, she admitted.

"I was in agony and knackered. But I thought it might help me go into labour,” she told Mirror News.

The video has been viewed more than 25 000 times on Facebook and was posted by her dance student, Dione Gibson, who said the clip was simply “too funny not to post”.

April has also tried other bizarre methods to induce her labour but none had been successful thus far.

"I was running out of ideas to induce it,” she said. “I'd tried a hot curry and raspberry leaf tea as well as going on my [exercise] ball but nothing worked.”

April has her own dance studio called April’s Feet and is, unfortunately, still waiting for her little one to arrive.

She has astonishingly taught dance throughout her pregnancy and intends to start “hitting the quan” right after giving birth. She also hopes her baby will inherit her amazing dance skills.

"My baby had better be a dancer. I'll be dancing with it as early as possible," she says.
